PUREspeech
Kathleen Kronenwetter Your path to successful communication
Balance your articulation communication abilities as you express yourself while collaborating clearly with your supervisors and your co-workers. This can be challenging when under stress or when talking on a conference call. The phone and background noises distract others from hearing your speech.
What can you do to reach your pure communication potential?
- use various strategies to relax
- over-exaggerate your speech sounds at the beginning and end of words
- know that you need to work harder to get your message across while on the phone or in a noisy area
- be aware that if your listeners are over 40 years of age that they may have reduced hearing
- record and listen to your speech using Audacity (free on the internet)
- be your own critic and improve your pure communication
- speak with a smile on your face, your enthusiasm will be noticed by your listener
ESL/Accent Reduction Corner
It is very important to encourage ESL speakers to converse with English speaking partners. Even listening to books on tape can help, but conversing face to face with English speakers is ideal. We all say unwanted 'fillers' in our conversation, but if it is distracting, we need to look at it more carefully. The Shwa (a) or the um used between sounds or words is not functional and may distract others from what we are communicating.
PWS Fluency Corner
It is very important for the Person Who Stutters to find ways to relax. It is critical that you find a therapist who you feel comfortable with while working on strategies to reduce blocking and facilitate flowing speech. Together we will work on reducing the frequency of stuttering and address any secondary behaviors you may have. We will also address if you avoid any situations. Together, we will focus on appropriate goals that are right for you.
