Kathy Rule, RYT Your path to inner balance
The word yoga means “to unite,” and comes from Sanskrit, an ancient language of India. In this context, it is the integration of body, mind and spirit. Yoga is the quest to remember our true nature and helps us to achieve our highest potential through the practice of ethical disciplines, physical postures, breathing techniques and meditation. Yoga helps us see through the illusion of suffering and helps us to transcend our limitations to bring clarity, focus and peace into our lives.
Restorative Yoga
The practice of Restorative Yoga, in conjunction with guided visualization and breathing exercises, helps you look inward and explore the integration of body, mind and spirit at a deeper level. Relaxation is achieved through complete support of the body using props, such as bolsters, blankets, straps, blocks and eye pillows. These simple supported poses are practiced from 5-30 minutes and create numerous benefits for the body and the mind:
- Reduces stress and anxiety
- Slows down the heart rate and lowers blood pressure
- Encourages healthy patterns of breathing
- Moves the spine in all directions to increase flexibility
- Helps during recovery from illness or injury
- Stretches muscles, fascia and connective tissue to facilitate a full range of movement
- Reverses the effects of gravity with inverted poses, changing the flow of blood & lymph
- Conserves energy, redirecting it to restore, replenish and rejuvenate the body
- Quiets the mind, increasing a sense of peace and well-being
"Kathy's restorative class is like a trip to the spa. You sink down into the poses and just relax far more deeply than is possible in our normal hectic lives. Her
lovely voice lulls you to lovely beaches and mountain brooks. The hardest part
of the class is actually getting up. I just never want it to end."

Meditation for the Workplace
Take time out of your busy work schedule for 15-20 minutes of guided meditation:
"Take a deep breath in and begin to relax. Soften through the jaw as you exhale, deeply and fully. Feel your body begin to relax. As you focus your awareness on your breath, you let go of any thoughts of work. You just slip into the moment. Shoulders relax. Face relaxes. Your heart rate begins to slow, the blood pressure lowers, your mind begin to quiet. The breath, just be with the breath. Notice the sensations of the breath. Be here, now. Nothing else to do right now. Just be."
